Virtual Event Data Governance When IT Has Informal (or Non-Existent) Processes
Thursday, Apr 23, 2009, 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM EDT

This event follows up on last month's popular session on "Incorporating a Governance Approach into Your Methodology." In that session, Anne Marie Smith, Ph.D. Director of Education and Principal Consultant for EWSolutions, and editor of the Real-World Decision Support (RDWS) Journal, presented a graphic that described the steps of a typical IT project, along with points where we can insert Data Governance.

This was well received, but some participants said that their IT departments simply don't use formal processes that they could insert steps into. In this complementary approach, we acknowledge that in some environments, we may not be able to dictate (or perhaps even directly influence) IT methodologies. But we claim our power: we look at what we can control, and we work with that.

Virtual Event Five Simple Things You Can Do Can Do To Help With The Financial Recovery
Tuesday, Apr 28, 2009, 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM EDT

This is a joint event with the Meta-data Professional Organization (MPO) and MDM University. Phone-in information will be handled by one of the other organizations. It's not ready yet, but if you sign up, we'll forward information when it's ready.

Most of us who work with metadata aren't in a position to make the big decisions that set our organizations on a course for successfully pulling out of the current economic crisis. However, we are in a position to have access to information that may be critical to those decision makers. What we know could make the difference between a GO and NO GO for a specific corporate strategy.

Join Gwen Thomas, President of the Data Governance Instititute, as she steps us through five simple things that metadata managers (and other data workers) can do to help decision makers get the information they need about their data before they rely on that data to make decisions that will affect the financial health of all of us.

Virtual Event What Do Your Data Stewards Do?
Thursday, May 7, 2009, 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM EDT

In some organizations, the top Data Governance Authority group of decision-makers is called the Data Stewardship Council. In other organizations, however, Data Stewards are hands-on-keyboards workers who are expected to perform rather routine tasks according to policy set by others.

In this tele-gathering, we ask participants to describe their organizations and the types of responsibilities they've envisioned for participants. We'll look at whether those responsibilities are influenced by the focus area for the Data Governance program: Data Quality, Compliance, Data Integration, etc. We'll also discuss the "support functions" that are frequently in place to help Data Stewards succeed.

Registration for this Event is Limited to Data Governance & Stewardship Community of Practice Members
