GAAP
A set of uniform accounting rules for recording and reporting financial information as established by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Garbage In, Garbage Out
An aphorism used to remind us that if bad information goes into the data store that is the source of a report, then the report will contain bad information.
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Grain
The meaning of a single record in a fact table.
Granularity
The level of detail or summarization of data. Atomic data has the lowest level of granularity.
GRC
An acronym for Governance, Risk, and Compliance used often by management in financial institutions to acknowledge the interdependencies of these three disciplines in setting policy. See also GRC-SQ and Risk Management.
GRC-SQ
An acronym for Governance, Risk Management, Compliance, Security, and Data Quality, used often by Data Governance and Data Quality programs to acknowledge the interdependencies of these five disciplines in managing data.
Grid Computing
The concept of connecting arrays of smaller computers into a single virtual supercomputer. Grids often involve large number of geographically dispersed machines that fall out of or are captured by the grid as they become available.
Groupthink
A situation in which critical information is withheld from the team because individual members censor or restrain themselves, either because they believe their concerns are not worth discussing or because they are afraid of confrontation. (ASQ definition)
Guideline
A document describing a Best Practice that recommends what should be done. Typically, a guideline is less binding than a standard.
Gullible
A term fabled to appear in many Data Dictionaries
