Data Humor We've created the web's largest collection of data humor.
Your guide to the lighter side of data (as well as its Zen qualities) is Darwin the Data Dude,
who presents a huge collection of data cartoons,
funny video clips,
inspirational quotes, and assorted silly stuff. Darwin also provides serious assistance in the form of Stakeholder Conversations: lessons in communication for Data Governance professionals, and occasionally guest posts on Data Governance Matters! DGI president Gwen Thomas' blog. Please feel free to download our cartoons and other humor pieces. Just give us credit, thank you! Please contribute! Are you a Change Agent, Data Guru, Architect, Governor, Steward, Policy and Standards developer, Compliance and Privacy officer, Enterprise Data Management leader, Risk and Controls coordinator, Data Administrator, Security and IT manager, or collectors of Governance Frameworks? We want to hear from you! Please send us links and suggestions for additional content. |

Learn about legislation that affects how data must be managed and governed. We've got information on Federal, State and International Laws and Regulations, with a briefing page for each one that includes its jurisdiction, all the names the laws may go by, a summary of the data implications of each law, and links for more information. Security Breaches and Data Disasters ![]() Breaches occur for many reasons: hacking, stolen data contained in tapes and computer equipment, lost data contained in tapes and computer equipment, or careless or unthinking disclosure of information. One thing they do have in common, they are no longer a mere 'whoops' situation. Find out more about the costs and consequences here. The Book Store
Sometimes there's no substitute for paper pages.
We've spent countless hours combing the bookshelves, finding those valuable reference materials. You can even pick up a copy of Gwen's book, Alpha Males and Data Disasters: The Case for Data Governance. |
Free Data Governance Processes, Templates, and Tools Would you like free expert guidance for starting and running a Data Governance and Stewardship program? Check out our new section, Guidance by Gwen .
DGI founder Gwen Thomas has been helping organizations build Data Governance programs since a Google search on the term yielded just 67 hits! She's decided to give back to the community by sharing some of her processes, templates, and tools. Check back frequently; she'll be adding more to the site every month.
Gwen's Data Governance processes are all based on The DGI Data Governance Framework, a logical structure for classifying, organizing, and communicating complex activities involved in making decisions about and taking action on enterprise data. This framework has been used as a foundation for dozens of governance efforts, in organizations ranging from F500 Enterprises to regional companies. You can read online about the 10 components in this framework, or you can download a copy here.
Data Glossary. We've collected the web's most comprehensive Data Glossary, with terms explained using non-technical language. Here you'll find the information you need to understand not only Data Governance, but other types of programs and projects, such as Master Data Management, Data Architecture and Modeling, Data Privacy and Compliance, ETL, SOA, the management of Sensitive and Personal Information, Data Warehousing and Marts, Business Intelligence, and other data-related disciplines. |
